Southside Guest House is situated only a few minutes from the Meadows and Holyrood Park in the centre of the University Campus. Venues from theatre, cinema and concerts as well as restaurants and pubs and the towering Arthur's Seat are no more than ten minutes walk away. Princes Street and the centre of town is a 20 minutes stroll.

by car:

From the West or From the North: from the West via M8/A8 ~ from the North via the Forth Bridge or from the North via Sterling and the M9 - in all cases take A720 City Bypass heading South (Berwick on Tweed direction) to Straiton Junction and take the A701 into Edinburgh. Follow this road the whole way into the city. The road is designated A701 the whole way. You are getting closer to Southside ( 8, Newington Road) as you turn on Craigmillar Park, Mayfield Road, Minto Street and then Newington Road (different names for the same road and still on the A701) We are right on the corner with West Preston and East Preston Street.

From the South and From the East : Via the A1 the coastal route. Join the A720 City Bypass at Old Craighall exit/roundabout. Follow the signs for A720 heading North (Airport/Glasgow etc)exit at Straiton Junction and take the A701 into Edinburgh. Follow this road the whole way into the city. The road is designated A701 the whole way. You are getting closer to Southside ( 8, Newington Road) as you turn on Craigmillar Park, Mayfield Road, Minto Street and then Newington Road (different names for the same road and still on the A701) We are right on the corner with West Preston and East Preston Street.

From the South and From the East : Via the A68 or the A7. Both will take to the Sheriffhall Roundabout - Join the A720 City Bypass and follow the signs for A720 heading North (Airport/Glasgow etc)exit at Straiton Junction and take the A701 into Edinburgh. Follow this road the whole way into the city. The road is designated A701 the whole way. You are getting closer to Southside ( 8, Newington Road) as you turn on Craigmillar Park, Mayfield Road, Minto Street and then Newington Road (different names for the same road and still on the A701) We are right on the corner with West Preston and East Preston Street.

From the South and From the North West: Via the M74/A74. You can either head from Glasgow and then take the M8/A8 for Edinburgh (then follow directions above - From the West or from the North) or you can leave the A74 at Abington and take the A702 though Biggar heading for Edinburgh. As you come off the A702 do not head into the City Centre but Join the A720 City Bypass heading South (Berwick on Tweed direction) to Straiton Junction and take the A701 into Edinburgh. Follow this road the whole way into the city. The road is designated A701 the whole way. National buses: arrive at St Andrew's Square very close to Waverley Station from where you can walk, take a taxi or a bus to Southside.

by train/rail:

There are two train stations in Edinburgh: Haymarket and the principal station Waverley. You want to come in at Waverley Station - Waverley . You can take a Taxi - about 5/8 minutes journey and around £6. If you prefer to walk (with light luggage!)Waverley is about 25 minutes from Southside. Alternatively catch a bus (see above).

Edinburgh Airport is located to the west of the city, approximately 10 miles from Southside.

By bus Public bus services stop outside the UK Arrivals doors on the terminal forecourt. Airlink 100 to city centre An express bus service operates frequently to Edinburgh city centre. First departure from the airport: †04:45 First departure from Waverley Bridge: 04:20 Frequency: Every†10 minutes from early morning until after midnight. The ticket cost is £3.50 single, £6 return. Tickets can be brought from the information desk at International arrivals, from a desk at the bus stop or on the bus itself. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes and terminates at Waverley Bridge, near to the main railway station and bus station and is just off the city's main street, Princes Street.

By Taxi Three taxi ranks are in operation at Edinburgh Airport.† The fleet of airport private vehicle taxis operate from the eastern end of the terminal building with the city 'black cab' taxi rank available adjacent to the coach park.† The third rank is located on the ground floor of the short stay multi storey car park† and is available for taxis that have been pre booked. A typical journey time to the city centre takes around 25 minutes and fares to Southside are about £20.
